Evacuations Now Impact the Dewey and Mayer Post Offices;

Postal Customers in Both Communities Are Asked to Pick Up Mail at Camp Verde Post Office Until Further Notice

June 28, 2017

DEWEY, AZ – Emergency officials battling the Goodwin Fire ordered the evacuation of Dewey earlier today, which has forced the Dewey Post Office to be closed until further notice, U.S. Postal Service announced.

On Tuesday, the Mayer Post Office was required to close to comply with evacuation orders.

Postal customers from both Dewey and Mayer who wish to pick up their mail are able to do so at the Camp Verde Post Office, 403 W. Finnie Flat Rd., Camp Verde AZ 86322. Dewey customers’ mail should be ready for pickup starting at about noon on Thursday, June 29, but earlier in the day thereafter for both Dewey and Mayer residents until their Post Office facilities can be reopened.

The Camp Verde Post Office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Postal customers on routes normally delivered from the Mayer and Dewey Post Offices are affected as a result of authorities’ evacuations in the area. All mail has been cleared from both facilities and transported to the Camp Verde Post Office.

Future delivery decisions will be made after consulting with local emergency managers.

“The Postal Service is doing everything we can to continue providing service to the community while prioritizing the safety of our employees and customers,” Mayer Postmaster Debra Jevitt reiterated today.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
