Douglas Post Office 100th birthday postmark

DOUGLAS, AZ – Civic leaders will gather with Postmaster Elizabeth Boss at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the front of the Douglas Post Office to celebrate the facility’s100th birthday with a special ceremony, commemorative postmark and customer appreciation event. The Douglas Post Office is at 601 E. 10th St.

Douglas Mayor Roberto Uribe, Police Chief Craig Fullen and Cochise County Justice of the Peace Alma Vildosola are among the dignitaries scheduled to participate in Friday’s celebration, as well as Jorge Ernesto Espejel Montes representing the Mexican Consulate and Cindy Hayostek of the Douglas Historical Society.

A brief ceremony honoring the Douglas Post Office’s history and service to the community will be followed by free refreshments. The public is invited to attend.

An official commemorative Douglas postmark celebrating the anniversary will be available at the Post Office throughout the day Friday. The postmark features a view of the front of the Post Office building and the words “Douglas Station Centennial 1917-2017” along with Friday’s date. To obtain the postmark, customers need only provide an envelope or card bearing a First-Class postage stamp in order to create a unique memento of the historic birthday.

“I know everyone who has worked in this building during the past century has taken great pride in providing postal services to Douglas residents,” Boss said. “It’s truly an honor to have the community join together with us to commemorate those 100 years in such a special way.”

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
