Release No. 09-065

FELTON, CA — Ray Furuta will be sworn in as the new Felton Postmaster on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 10:00a.m., at the Felton Post Office, 6101 Gushee St. Felton CA 95018.

Furuta, 44, started his postal career in 1986 as a letter sorting machine operator at the San Jose Processing and Distribution Center. He then transferred to the San Jose Post Office in 1995 as a sales and service associate, and later to Campbell in 1999. He took his first management position in 2003 as an officer-in-charge (OIC) at the Brookdale Post Office, and filled other OIC positions at the Aromas and Felton Post Offices. The OIC assignments would serve him well in being selected as the Aromas Postmaster in 2005, and now as Felton’s newest Postmaster.

“I see the Postmaster as the lead federal representative of the United States Postal Service in my community, and view myself as the leader, coach, and team member of my office,” said Furuta. “My primary goal is for my employees to give the best service possible to the entire community and to represent the community in the proud tradition of former postmasters.”

Furuta resides in San Jose with his wife, Barbara, daughters Angelica, 23, Veronica, 22, and sons Ray, 20, Christian, 15, and Ethan, 4. Furuta has two grandchildren, Joshua, 1, and Sofia, 5 months.

Furuta enjoys music, video games, relaxing with his family, watching cartoons with his children, camping, and taking family vacations.

Furuta becomes the 8th Postmaster since the Felton Post Office was established on July 15, 1941. Felton’s first Postmaster was Oliver W. Parkison. Furuta has management responsibility for 13 employees, five rural routes, 3,252 delivery points (addresses), including 1,101 PO Boxes, and daily mail volume of 8,121 pieces. Felton’s population is 6,500.

Post Office Operations Manager Darrell Stoke will administer the oath of office. The Public is invited.
