Denise Pace to be Sworn in as El Cerrito Postmaster

EL CERRITO, CA — Denise Pace will be sworn in as the new El Cerrito Postmaster on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at the El Cerrito Post Office, 11135 San Pablo Avenue.

Pace, 47, started her postal career in 1985 as a letter carrier in Northridge, CA. She began her management career as a supervisor of customer service in 1994 and transferred to the Vallejo Post Office in 1998 in the same position. Pace held a number of management positions throughout the East Bay, including as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) at the Fairfield, Vallejo and Antioch Post Offices, the training position for future Postmasters. Prior to her selection as Postmaster, Pace was the Manager of the North Oakland Station.

“I’m honored to be selected as Postmaster of the City of El Cerrito,” said Pace. “I’m looking forward to working together with the employees of the El Cerrito Post Office and the customers of the City of El Cerrito in accomplishing the needs of our businesses. My goal as the leader of the United States Postal Service in the City of El Cerrito is to provide excellent service to our customers, and I am confident that even in midst of our challenging economy we will continue to excel in our obligation to being the best service provider as determined by our customers.”

Pace resides in Vallejo with her husband, James. They have three children, son Rickey, 27, and daughters Melany, 24, and Lillie, 4.

A community participant and volunteer, Pace belongs to the local Chamber of Commerce and volunteers at the Ennis Chapel Church of God In Christ as a youth department leader. For leisure, she enjoys sewing, reading, jogging, and hiking. Pace has an AA in Business Administration, a BA in Theology and is currently pursuing a Masters of Theological Studies.

Pace follows in a long line of El Cerrito Postmasters, starting with the first Postmaster William R. Rust in 1909 when El Cerrito was known as Rust. The city name was changed to El Cerrito in 1916. Pace replaces Suja Thomas who took another management position in the Bay-Valley District. Pace has management responsibility for 52 employees, 11,251 city deliveries covered by 25 city routes, 1,951 PO Boxes, and daily mail volume of 43,000 pieces. El Cerrito’s population is 24,000.

Post Office Operations Manager Oscar Munoz will administer the oath of office. The Public is invited.
