Release No.  09-071

PORT COSTA, CA—Judy Bulfer will be sworn in as the new Port Costa Postmaster on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at the Port Costa School, corner of Reservoir and Canyon Lake Dr. The public is invited as Post Office Operations Manager Anthony Daniels administers the oath of office.

Bulfer, 39, started her U.S. Postal Service career as a Postmaster Relief in 2005 at the Post Costa Post Office. She later became the officer-in-charge (OIC) in 2007.

“I am honored to be the Postmaster for the community of Port Costa,” said Bulfer. “My goal is to provide excellent customer service with a smile, and to personally grow and embrace change with the Postal Service.”

Bulfer resides in Rodeo, with husband Timothy, 52, son Dalton Duncan, 14, and daughter Dedrea Duncan, 11. She enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, sewing, motorcycle riding, scouting, and living life to the fullest.

A community activist, Bulfer is the Adult Leader with Boy Scouts of America, Troop 171/173 in Crockett, and Girl Scout Leader, Troop 2054. She also does volunteer work with the Port Costa Conservation Society.

Bulfer has management responsibility for delivery to 140 P.O. Boxes and one employee. The Port Costa Post Office was established in 1881, and the first Postmaster was Lucas Larue.

Port Costa was founded in 1879, and for a time, it was the busiest wheat-shipping port in the United States. Since the late 1960s, it has mainly been a small shopping venue for antique hunters.
