CARMICHAEL, CA—Connie Common will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1950 when the first Post Office was dedicated in Carmichael and the first Postmaster, Martha Manhart, was installed. On Friday, October 16, 2009, 1 p.m., Common will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office at the Carmichael Post Office, 6929 Fair Oaks Blvd., Carmichael CA 95608.
Common, 59 started her postal career in 1986 as a city letter carrier in Del Paso Heights. In 1993, she became a supervisor of customer services at Metro Station in downtown Sacramento. She held a number of supervisory positions at stations throughout the city of Sacramento, and was Postmaster of North Highlands and Orangevale Post Offices, where she was Postmaster until her selection as Carmichael Postmaster on August 29, 2009.
“I am proud to have been selected as the Postmaster of Carmichael,” said Common. “I am here to ensure that the customers of Carmichael receive the best service they deserve while making the work environment for my employees sage and efficient.”
Common has two daughters, Dawn, 39 and Angela 37, and four grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Dylan and Hunter. She resides in Sacramento.
Common believes in community involvement and volunteers her time with the Goodwill Industries.
As Carmichael Postmaster, Common oversees 102 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of 100,000 pieces to 28,378 delivery points (addresses) within 53 city routes, and 2,562 Post Office boxes.
Theresa Hartenstein, Manager Post Office Operations, will administer the oath of office.
