Release No. SC09-004

MOORPARK, CA – The Moorpark Post Office will hold its grand opening on Dec. 2, 2009 at 4 p.m. The Post Office has been operating in its new location at 100 W. High Street since October 2009, and now it’s time to celebrate. The public is invited to the celebration, and refreshments will be served.

“This is a great story of municipal and Postal Service cooperation,” said Moorpark Postmaster Richard Sigman. “With the city’s help, we were able to relocate to a more convenient location and offer a modern Postal facility to our Moorpark customers.” He added, “And just in time for the holidays.”

The Post Office at the new W. High Street location will provide customers with the same full retail services that were provided at the old location in the Ralph’s Shopping Center on W. Los Angeles Ave. Merchants and Postal Service customers will now be better able to combine Post Office errands, or pick up an extra book of stamps, while holiday shopping downtown.

The final program is being worked out but tentatively scheduled to speak at the grand opening will be members of the Moorpark city staff including Moorpark Mayor Janice Parvin and Postal Service officials, including Sierra Coastal District Manager Kerry Wolny.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
