Postal Service consolidating some Pasadena operations

Merging Raymond Annex into Mack Robinson Station will be transparent to customers

December 07, 2009

Release No. 09-20SC

PASADENA, CA—Effective Dec. 14, 2009, U.S. Postal Service operations at the Raymond Annex, 870 S. Raymond Ave., will be consolidated into Mack Robinson Station, 600 Lincoln Ave. The two facilities are about two miles apart.

Raymond Annex houses only letter carrier operations and administrative offices and does not offer public retail or P.O. Box service. The move will not impact mail delivery and will be transparent to the community.

The only public-access service at Raymond Annex is will-call for customers to pick up accountable items and mail that has been held. Customers will still have separate will-call service available at Mack Robinson’s Firms Pick Up counter, and it will be open two hours longer than at Raymond Annex ? until 7 p.m. on weekdays

Mack Robinson also offers customers P.O. Box service and full retail service. Retail hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The operational move will involve 66 delivery routes that service more than 32,000 deliveries in ZIP Codes 91101, 91105 and 91106.

This consolidation is part of the Postal Service’s aggressive response to the current business environment. The USPS has been hit hard by the economic recession, with mail volumes dropping a combined 17 percent in the past two years. The USPS posted a net loss of $3.8 billion in Fiscal Year 2009.

The Postal Service owns the Raymond Annex property and plans to place it on the market for sale sometime next year.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
