BOULDER CREEK, CA — Doug Marshall will follow a proud tradition dating to 1872 when the first Boulder Creek Post Office was dedicated and its first postmaster, Joseph Peery, was installed. On Friday, May 14, 2010, at 11 a.m., Marshall will take the official oath of office at the Boulder Creek Post Office, 200 Lorenzo Street, Boulder Creek, CA 95006.

Marshall, 51, began his Postal Service career as a part-time letter carrier in Hayward in 1993. He became a delivery supervisor in Hayward in 1997 after graduating as a member of the Oakland Processing and Distribution Center’s first Associate Supervisor Program class. Then Marshall became a mail processing supervisor in Hayward. He transferred to a supervisor position in Los Gatos in 2000. Marshall was officer in charge in Felton and Pebble Beach, Postmaster of Pebble Beach in 2007, and then worked as postmaster in Boulder Creek beginning in March 2008.

“It is an honor to be a postmaster, serving as the highest ranking representative of the federal government in Boulder Creek. We try to give our customers excellent service every day—every customer—and we try to get better at what it is we do every day,” Marshall said.

He is married to Lisa. They have two sons, James, 14, and John, 11.

Marshall holds an Associate of Arts degree from Solano College. He volunteers his time in the capacity of Little League President in Scotts Valley.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
