David Beaudoin to be Sworn in as Orangevale Postmaster

June 14, 2010

Release No.  10-051

ORANGEVALE, CA — David Beaudoin will continue in the long tradition of postmasters who have served this country, including Benjamin Franklin who was the first Postmaster General of the United States. On Friday, June 14, 2010, at 10 a.m., Beaudoin will take his official oath of office at the Orangevale Post Office, 6261 Hazel Ave., Orangevale CA 95662.

Beaudoin, 55, began his U.S. Postal Service career in 1991 as a Letter Carrier at Sacramento’s Elkhorn Station. He was selected to the first Associate Supervisor Program (ASP), a grueling 16-week supervisory training program, in 1997. He was later selected to attend the Sacramento Postal District’s Mid-Level Management training for managers identified as potential future leaders. Soon after, he was promoted to Supervisor Customer Services at the North Highlands Post Office. With a personal goal of becoming a Postmaster, he began taking on assignments as an officer-in-charge (OIC) at a number of Post Offices, a proving ground for aspiring Postmasters. His first Postmaster position was in 2003 as the Sloughhouse Postmaster. After serving as the OIC at Orangevale for three months, he was permanently selected as the Postmaster in May 2010.

“It is an honor to have been held in such high esteem and to have been selected as the Orangevale Postmaster,” said Beaudoin. “I look forward to being involved in the community and meeting my community’s needs with timely, accurate delivery and excellent customer service.” Beaudoin believes a safe work environment for his employees is a healthy work environment that translates to a great place to work and the right place to do business.

Beaudoin has been married to his wife, Peggy, for eight years. He has two children, Alicia, 22, and Matthew (20). Beaudoin enjoys canoeing, motorcycling, fishing, hiking, bowling, home remodeling and landscaping.

As Orangevale Postmaster, Beaudoin oversees 47 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of 60,000 pieces to 15,375 delivery points (addresses), including 2,518 Post Office Boxes, over 24 city delivery routes.

Theresa Hartenstein, Manager Post Office Operations, will administer the oath of office.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
