UNION CITY, CA — Lali Toor will follow a proud tradition dating to the mid-1950s when Union City Post Office was established, headed at that time by Postmaster Mary B. George. On Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., Toor will take the official oath of office at the Union City Post Office located at 33170 Alvarado Niles Road, Union City, CA 94587.
Toor, 50, began his postal career as a letter carrier in 1982. In 1996, he became an acting supervisor at the Fremont Post Office. In 2000, he enrolled in the Associate Supervisor Program, a grilling 16-week supervisory training program, and became a full-time supervisor at the Fremont Post Office. He transferred to the Union City Post Office in 2003 as a Supervisor Customer Service. In preparation to one day become a Postmaster, he took on officer-in-charge duties at the Rodeo and Union City post offices.
“This is a great honor,” Toor said. “I would like to serve the citizens of Union City and provide them with first class service.”
Toor is married to Sarbjeet. They have a son, Vinnie, 17, and a daughter, Tiffany, 13.
Toor holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Delhi University, India. He volunteers his time driving leukemia patients to doctor appointments. As Union City postmaster Toor oversees 85 employees who process and deliver to 22,050 addresses within 42 routes. Union City also serves 1,950 Post Office Boxes.
