July 30, 2010

Release No.  10-056

DOBBINS, CA — Shawn Robertson continues in the long tradition of postmasters who have served Dobbins, population 1,500. The first Dobbins Post Office was established in 1851, closing in 1854. The Post Office returned in 1887 and has operated continuously since. On Friday, August 6, 2010 at 2 p.m., Robertson will take the official oath of office at the Dobbins Post Office, 10375 Marysville Road, Dobbins, CA 95935.

Robertson, 28, began his U.S. Postal Service career in 2002 as a Rural Carrier Associate at Roseville, CA. He became a Rural Carrier at Granite Bay in 2004. In 2005, he attended the Associate Supervisor Program (ASP) and was promoted to Supervisor in Yuba City. After a brief period back to a craft position in 2008 at the Marysville Main Post Office, he returned to management duties in March 2010 at the Dobbins Post Office. Robertson was selected as the Dobbins Postmaster in June 2010.

“I have been called to serve a community,” Robertson said, “and, in Dobbins, I will build relationships that exceed those involved in just doing business.”

Robertson is married to Kerri-Lynne. He participates in breakfast fundraisers to support the local fire dept. and the local community food bank, and lectures at his church and helps with the music program. As a hobby, he enjoys car shows.

As Dobbins Postmaster, Robertson works with one employee processing and delivering mail to 485 Post Office Boxes and 16 deliveries on one highway contract route (HCR).

Post Office Operations Manager Matthew Valdivia will administer the oath of office.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
