BETHEL ISLAND, CA — On Friday, September 24, at 10 a.m., Dann Myers will join a proud tradition of Postmasters that have served this country, including Benjamin Franklin who was the first Postmaster General of the United States. Myers will take his official oath of office at the Bethel Island Post Office, 6444 Bethel Island Road, Bethel Island CA 94511.
Myers began his U.S. Postal Service career as a distribution clerk on June 19, 1986, in Oakley, CA. Eight months later he became a regular rural letter carrier at Oakley. Myers became the first rural carrier in the Oakland District to become a Postmaster on October 28, 1995, serving Canyon, CA. Myers later transferred to the Sacramento District when he was selected as the Ryde Postmaster in 1998. He held other Postmaster positions in Hood in 2002 and Holt in 2003. He was the Customer Relations Coordinator for the Stockton Post Office from 2005 to 2006. He served as Postmaster Valley Springs from 2007 to February 2010, the position he held prior to being selected as Postmaster Bethel Island.
Myers is a native of California and the East Bay Area. He and his wife Rosie have resided in the Bethel Island community for 12 years. Together they raised three daughters Kathy, Tahna and Dani at their home in Oakley and later Bethel Island.
“Our daughters are grown and gone now,” said Myers. “My family and I are excited about my selection to ‘come home’ and serve the historic community of Bethel Island. I will continue the proud tradition of Postmasters before me to continue to provide excellent customer service to the residents of Bethel Island.”
As Bethel Island Postmaster, Myers oversees three employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of 4,700 pieces to 1,400 Post Office boxes.
Post Office Operations Manager Rodney Romero will administer the oath of office.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
