Customer Express Mail Pick-up Location also Changing

October 19, 2010

Release No. SF10-050

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — On October 23, 2010, letter carriers responsible for delivering mail to South San Francisco will be temporarily moving to the San Bruno Main Post Office, 1300 Huntington Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066.  The move is in anticipation of the closing of the South San Francisco Carrier Annex, 1070 San Mateo Ave., South San Francisco, 94080 because of the loss of the lease at the carrier facility.

“We are temporarily expanding the San Bruno Post Office to accommodate the South San Francisco letter carriers,” said Tony Beltran, postmaster of South San Francisco.  A total of 48 carrier routes for ZIP Code 94080 will temporarily move into the San Bruno Post Office.

Customers should not experience a change in delivery service; however, they should be aware of one important change. Effective October 25, 2010, customers residing in the 94080 ZIP Code who receive a notice to pick up an Express Mail letter or package will no longer do so at 1070 San Mateo Ave., South San Francisco. Instead, they will pick up Express Mail items at the San Bruno Post Office. All other notice left pick-ups will continue at the Chestnut Station, 36 Chestnut Ave., South San Francisco.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
