U.S. Postal Service’s Jan. 26 public meeting on Industry mail processing study moves to Industry Hills Expo Center

January 18, 2011

Release No. 11-02

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA – The U.S. Postal Service is changing the location for the public meeting it will hold to discuss its proposal to move some outgoing mail processing operations from the Industry Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) into the Santa Ana P&DC. The date and time of the meeting remain the same.

The new location for the Industry AMP public meeting will be the Industry Hills Expo Center, 16200 Temple Ave., City of Industry CA 91744. The meeting will take place on Wed., Jan. 26, 2011, at 6 p.m.

With the deep declines in mail volume due to the migration to electronic communication and business transactions, as well as current economic conditions, the Postal Service has an excess of employees and equipment in some mail processing operations. A study was begun on Oct. 6, 2010 at the Industry P&DC to determine the feasibility of consolidating some outbound operations to see if any efficiencies and cost savings could be achieved. Preliminary results of the study support the business case for consolidation and shows there would be no adverse impact on mail delivery standards.

While no final decision has been reached, Postal Service managers will give an overview of the reasons for the proposal and its possible outcomes, and will listen to community input. A summary of the proposal, a meeting agenda and presentation materials will be made available on usps.com.

The Postal Service welcomes public input. Anyone who wishes to submit comments in writing can send them to:

Public comments must be postmarked by Feb. 10, 2011.
