Postal Service Approves Relocation of El Segundo Post Office

Retail, PO Box service will move to Bay Cities Annex

September 15, 2011

EL SEGUNDO, CA — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has approved the relocation of the El Segundo Post Office, 200 Main St., to the Bay Cities Carrier Annex, 2130 E. Mariposa Ave. The two facilities are about two miles apart. There will be no change in Post Office Box holders’ addresses or ZIP Code, nor will this relocation impact mail delivery to El Segundo residents and businesses in any way. A date for the move has not been determined.

Postal Service representatives met with the El Segundo City Council and members of the community on June 9, to share information and gather public input. A written public comment period was open until June 24, 2011. The relocation proposal and all public input received was then forwarded to USPS Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where the final decision was made.

The El Segundo relocation plan is part of a nationwide response by USPS to right-size its vast network, reduce costs and operate more efficiently in the face of dramatic decreases in mail volume and declines in revenue. The Postal Service does not receive tax dollars to fund its operations and facilities, but uses revenue from the sale of postage and postal products and services to cover expenses.

The Postal Service’s decision may be appealed within 15 days to:
