SELMA, CA — Shea Owens will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1880 when Mr. Jacob E. Whitson was the first Selma Postmaster sworn into office. On Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at 1:30 p.m., Owens will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office at the Selma Post Office, 2058 High Street, Selma, CA 93662. The oath of office will be administered by Richard Garcia, Manager of Post Office Operations, Sacramento District.
Owens, 38, will be the youngest and the first female Postmaster of Selma. Owens began her Postal Service career as a carrier in 1996 in Selma. In 2005, she enrolled and graduated from the Associate Supervisor Program, a challenging 16-week training course, and served as Customer Service supervisor at the Selma Post Office. In July 2011, she was promoted to Postmaster of Selma.
“Becoming Postmaster of Selma has been a dream of mine since the day I started with the Postal Service in 1996,” Owens said. “I am committed to the town and the people of Selma and will provide the best service I can as Postmaster.”
Owens graduated from Selma High School. She enjoys camping, 4X4 trucks, riding motorcycles and fishing with her son Jordon, 16, and daughter Taylor, 13. She is an annual volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy program.
As Selma Postmaster, Owens oversees 29 employees who process and deliver mail to 6,815 city, 2,543 rural and 943 Post Office box deliveries six days a week, serving a local population on 24,000.
