John Cabral to be Sworn in as Newman Postmaster

NEWMAN, CAJohn Cabral will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1936 when Marshall E. Walden was installed as the first Newman Postmaster. On Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., Cabral will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office at the Newman Post Office located at 1313 Main Street, Newman, CA 95360-9998. The oath of office will be administered by Newman Mayor Ed Katen.

Cabral, 48, began his Postal Service career as a letter carrier in 1985 in San Jose, CA. In 1997, he was promoted to Delivery Supervisor in Santa Clara. In 1999, he came to the Sacramento District and served as the Delivery Supervisor at the Tracy Post Office. In 2004, he went to work as the district team leader for Operations Programs Support, where he had administrative duties overseeing 2,500 mail delivery routes.

”I hope to be the best postmaster Newman has ever had,” said Cabral. “I look forward to serving my community with the best service possible and to provide a healthy work environment for my employees.”

Cabral holds an associate of arts degree in Administrative Justice (Criminal Law). He has volunteered and helped coordinate community activities at the Calvary Worship Center in Modesto and has been involved in mission trips to build schools and hospitals.

As Newman Postmaster, Cabral oversees 11 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of 9,000 pieces to 3,788 delivery points (addresses), two rural routes, four city routes and 692 Post Office boxes.
