Elsa E. Ramos to be Sworn in as Lafayette Postmaster

LAFAYETTE, CAElsa E. Ramos will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1857 when Benjamin Shreve was appointed Lafayette Postmaster. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., Ramos will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office at the Lafayette Carrier Annex, 3426 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, CA 94549. The oath of office will be administered by Manager Post Office Operations Jack Boster, Bay-Valley District.

Ramos began her Postal Service career as a city letter carrier in 1983 in the Oakland District. She was selected to her first management position in 1990 as a supervisor, Station & Branch Operations. This was followed by managerial assignments in Berkeley, Albany, and Pittsburg.

“As the Postmaster of Lafayette, it is a privilege to serve the Lafayette community and an honor to represent the United States Postal Service here in Lafayette,” said Ramos. “Our carriers, clerks, custodians, and management team have the responsibility and the commitment to provide a positive and excellent customer experience. The customer is our priority every time, every day.”

Ramos resides in Richmond, and has one child, Alexander, 26. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

As Lafayette Postmaster, Ramos oversees 50 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 75,900 pieces to 11,835 delivery points (addresses), 23 city routes and 1,264 Post Office boxes, six days a week.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
