FOWLER, CA — The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved HR 4389 to dedicate the Fowler Post Office in the memory of Cecil E. Bolt, former Fowler Postmaster. A dedication ceremony will take place on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Fowler Post Office located at 19 E. Merced Street, Fowler CA 93625.

Participating in the ceremony will be family members, Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA), who wrote the bill, Congressman David Valadao (D-CA), Sacramento Postal District Manager Al Santos, Fowler Postmaster Mary Anne Ward, and League of Postmasters California State President Norma Powell.

Bolt, who moved to Fowler in 1939, was drafted into the U.S. Army just prior to World War II and was assigned to the 75th Artillery Unit in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska.

He married Naomi Opal Gourley on a weekend furlough on March 2, 1942. They had two daughters, Dorothy Jane and Kathy Jean.

After the war, Bolt returned to Fowler and was appointed Postmaster in 1947 by President Harry Truman, a position Bolt held for 27 years. He was known for his friendly service, even personally delivering packages on Christmas Eve. Bolt was a member of the National League of Postmasters, an association which he served in every capacity, including state president. In 1969, he received Fowler's "Citizen of the Year" award, and in 2004 he was given the title of "Silent Servant of the Year" for his volunteer work with children in the Fowler community.
