Santa Monica Post Office opens in new location July 1

SANTA MONICA, CA — The last day of operation for the Santa Monica Post Office at 1248 5th St. will be Saturday, June 29, 2013. The Post Office will be open for half-day that Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, after which time retail lobby service and P.O. Box mail will not be available the remainder of the weekend to facilitate the move of equipment and mail.

The Santa Monica Post Office will open in its new location at 1653 7th St. on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. Services and retail hours will remain the same at the new location:

Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

P.O. Box customers will have the same P.O. Box number and ZIP Code, as well as the same key since the boxes will be physically moved into the new facility. P.O. Box mail will be available for pick up Saturday, June 29, at the retail counter from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Customers will need photo identification to collect their mail that day.

Mar Vista Station – Saturday hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Postal Service plans to sell the 5th St. building, which is a structure with historic significance. Working with the State Historic Preservation Officer and his staff, the Postal Service will ensure the historic characteristics of the building are maintained through covenants conveyed to the buyer as an attachment to the deed.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations and facilities.
