LAFAYETTE, CA — On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, Kulwant Singh will follow a proud tradition dating to 1857 when Benjamin Shreve served as the first permanent Lafayette Postmaster. At a 10:00 a.m. ceremony, Singh will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Lafayette Post Office, 3426 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA 94549. Jack Boster, Manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the oath of office.

Singh started his U.S. Postal Service career in 1984 as a city letter carrier in Santa Rosa and later carried mail in Alameda and Richmond. In 2001, Singh joined the management ranks and held various managerial positions in Richmond and Berkeley.

“It is a great honor to be a Postmaster,” said Singh. “As Postmaster, I will assure we provide consistent and premier service to our customers and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for my employees.”

Singh, 61, has two daughters, Sandeep, 33, Mandeep, 31, and six grandchildren. He enjoys playing soccer and spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife, Jasvir, reside in El Sobrante. Singh has a B.S. degree from Calcutta University, India, and is the president of the Sikh Temple in El Sobrante, where he helps raise funds to develop positive direction for the youth, help to the needy, and resolve domestic violence.

As Lafayette Postmaster, Singh oversees 48 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 120,000 pieces to 18,828 delivery points (addresses), on 24 city routes and 1,293 Post Office boxes.
