DANVILLE, CA — On Friday, July 19, 2013, Romy de Guzman will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1860 when Henry W. Harris served as the first Danville Postmaster. At a 10:00 a.m. ceremony, de Guzman will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Danville Post Office, 2605 Camino Tassajara, Danville 94526. Oscar Munoz, Manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the oath of office.
De Guzman started his U.S. Postal Service career in 1981 as a city letter carrier in Oakland. Four years later he moved into management as a supervisor in Oakland, and in 1993 became the Novato Postmaster and served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Santa Rosa and Fremont Post Offices. He served on various USPS headquarters task groups, and in 2008 became the Manager, Customer Services Operations for the Oakland Post Office, the number two position under the Postmaster.
“Customer service is not a department, it is an attitude,” said de Guzman. “Service that meets customers’ expectations is the ultimate goal.”
De Guzman, 54, and his wife, Gennie, have two children, Gerome, 18, and Gillian, 15. They reside in Fremont. De Guzman has a B.S. degree in Organizational Behavior, USF, and a M.S. degree in Administration, Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of the USPS Advanced Leadership Program and is a certified Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt. He enjoys mechanical projects, golf, SCUBA diving, amateur radio, and tinkering on cars and electronics, such as computer hardware and programming.
A believer in community involvement, de Guzman volunteers his time with the Habitat for Humanity.
As Danville Postmaster, de Guzman oversees 78 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 557,000 pieces to 21,520 delivery points (addresses), on 40 city routes and 2,310 Post Office boxes.
