PENRYN, CA — On Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, Ronald Booker will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1873 when E. S. Rushing was appointed the first Penryn Postmaster. In an 11:00 a.m. ceremony, Booker will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Penryn Post Office, 2205 Rippey Rd, Penryn CA 95663. Jagdeep Grewal, manager post office operations, will administer the oath of office.

Booker started his U.S. Postal Service career in 1998 as a rural carrier in West Sacramento. He transferred to the Rocklin Post Office and two years later became a regular rural carrier. In 2001, he was promoted as distribution supervisor at the Processing and Distribution Center in West Sacramento and subsequently served as a supervisor, customer services, at the Lincoln, Woodland, North Highlands and Roseville Post Offices. In preparation to become a postmaster, Booker served as the officer-in-charge of the North Highlands, Fair Oaks, Roseville and Woodland Post Offices.

“To serve a small community like Penryn is a great honor,” said Booker. “It has been my goal to serve such a wonderful community since I started working for the Postal Service. I will honorably serve this community, provide excellent service to my customers, and help the businesses prosper and grow in every way I can.”

Booker, 57, and his wife, Ramona, have three children, Steven, 35, Robert, 33, and Shauna, 31, and 12 grandchildren. They also raised two nephews, Raymond, 28, and Anthony, 26. They reside in Elverta. Booker loves golf, motorcycles, gardening, and spending time with his family. Booker believes in giving to his community, having helped feed the homeless in Royer Park, coached Little League, and served as President of the Larchmont Little League. He served as a Eucharistic minister at St Lawrence Church.

As Penryn Postmaster, Booker oversees three employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 5,000 pieces to 1,053 delivery points (addresses) on one rural route and one auxiliary route and 700 Post Office boxes.
