CUPERTINO, CA — On Thursday, August 29, 2013, Phyllis Goff will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1882 when Arch Wilson served as the first Cupertino Postmaster. In an 11:00 a.m. ceremony, Goff will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Cupertino Post Office, 21701 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino 95014. Aaron Jones, manager Post Office operations, will administer the oath of office.

Goff started her postal career as a letter sorting machine operator at the World Way Bulk Mail Center in Los Angeles in 1982. She became a letter carrier in 1985, and delivered mail for 18 years. In 2003, Goff decided to change her career goals and became an acting supervisor, and was promoted to supervisor of customer services in Santa Clara in 2007. She served as the officer-in-charge of the Cupertino Post Office prior to her selection as the Postmaster.

“As the Postmaster of Cupertino, I feel it is my personal responsibility to promote the interest of the Postal Service to all my customers by providing great customer service in retail and delivery,” said Goff. “There are many small businesses in Cupertino, and I want to help them grow by promoting our product lines and services.”

Goff, and her husband, Kurt, have four adult children, Quentin, Alana, Renee and Devon, and ten grandchildren. They reside in Sunnyvale. Goff enjoys reading and traveling, and volunteers her time at homeless shelters.

As Cupertino Postmaster, Goff oversees 83 employees who process and deliver a daily mail volume of more than 200,000 pieces to 23,188 delivery points (addresses), on 47 city routes and 2,500 Post Office boxes.
