RESCUE, CA — On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, Kendra Ussery will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1895 when Dr. Merritt Hunter served as the first Rescue Postmaster. In a 1 p.m. ceremony, Ussery will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Rescue Fire House Meeting Room, 5221 Deer Valley Rd., Rescue, CA 95672. Manager Post Office Operations Theresa Hartenstein will administer the oath of office.
Ussery started her postal career as a Postmaster relief (PMR) at the Kyburz CA Post Office in 1994, where she served as the officer-in-charge and PMR until her promotion as the Rescue Postmaster.
“To be a Postmaster in a small town, especially small towns with rich California history, is to be a part of that history itself,” said Ussery.
Ussery, 45, and her husband, Jim, have two children, Ken, 18, and Kaitlyn, 15. Ussery enjoys fantasy art, 3D digital art, crochet, reading and design. They reside in Kyburz.
As Rescue Postmaster, Ussery oversees one employee and the delivery of mail to 420 PO Boxes.
