VALLEY SPRINGS, CA — On Friday, September 27, 2013, Shelly Holton will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1872 when Robert Eprison served as Postmaster. In a 1:30 p.m. ceremony, Holton will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Valley Springs Post Office, 200 E. Hwy 12, Valley Springs CA 95252. Manager of Post Office Operations Bobbi Riley will administer the oath of office.
Holton started her postal career as a Modesto city carrier in 1986 and continued delivering the mail in Jackson City from 2000 to 2005. In 2006, she became a supervisor of customer service in Stockton, and served as the Burson Postmaster prior to her selection as the Valley Springs Postmaster.
“I am honored and grateful to be the Postmaster of the town where I live,” said Holton. “I know the community very well, and I know my customers, which will allow me to serve them on a very personal basis.”
Holton, 51, and her husband, Andy, have three children, April, 28, Shane, 25, Misty, 21, and three grandchildren. Holton volunteers her time to raise funds for local fire fighters, the VFW and 4th of July events.
As Valley Springs Postmaster, Holton oversees 20 employees who process and deliver a daily mail volume of more than 20,000 pieces to 5,572 delivery points (addresses), on eight rural routes and 1,800 Post Office boxes.
