SACRAMENTO, CA — On Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, Jeffrey C. Day will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1849 when Henry E. Robinson served as the first Sacramento Postmaster. In a 10:00 a.m. ceremony, Day will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Sacramento Post Office, 2000 Royal Oaks Drive, Sacramento 95813. Sacramento District Manager Barbara Plunkett will administer the oath of office.
Day started his Postal Service career as a letter sorting machine operator in Boise, ID in August 1981 and worked as a letter carrier starting in 1987. He began his management career as a customer service supervisor in 1988. Day went on to serve as the Postmaster of Othello, WA, Richland, WA, Boise, ID and Scottsdale, AZ. Prior to his selection as the Sacramento Postmaster, Day was the Manager Retail Operations at postal headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“Being a Postmaster is a great honor regardless of the location,” said Day. “It enables you to be a part of the community and puts you in personal contact with the people who make up the community. My goal is to continue to improve service and make everyone’s postal experience a positive one.”
Day, 55, has two sons, Michael, 33, and Johnathon, 30. Day and his wife, Lisa, reside in Roseville, CA. Day has a Bachelor’s Degree of Divinity and is active in his church. He enjoys playing the guitar and fishing.
As Sacramento Postmaster, Day oversees 994 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 1,080,369 pieces to 345,676 delivery points (addresses), on 537 city routes, 94 rural routes and 19,713 Post Office boxes.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
