VOLCANO, CA — On Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, Margie Soracco will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1851 when Ephriam W. Gemmill served as the first Volcano Postmaster. Soracco will raise her right hand at a 1:00 p.m. ceremony to take the official oath of office as Postmaster of the Volcano Post Office, 16120 Main Street, Volcano CA 95689. Rosemarie Moreno, Postmaster of Pine Grove, will administer the official oath of office.
Soracco started her U.S. Postal Service career as a postal support employee at the West Point Post Office in April 2012.
“I am enjoying getting to know the people in the Volcano community,” said Soracco. “I am dedicated to working hard and providing quality service to my customers.”
Soracco, 39, has a daughter, Corina, 14, and they reside in West Point. She worked in the real estate field in Amador and Calaveras counties for seven years. Soracco has long roots in the region, with five generations of her family residing in the area.
As Volcano Postmaster, Soracco oversees four employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 2,000 pieces to 547 delivery points (addresses) on one delivery route and to 388 Post Office boxes.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
