EL SEGUNDO, CA — A broken water main severely damaged the El Segundo Post Office, 2130 N. Mariposa Ave., in El Segundo on Feb. 6. The facility houses delivery operations for both the El Segundo and Manhattan Beach communities. Letter carriers had already left for the day and delivery operations were not impacted, but mail in P.O. Boxes was not accessible and retail services were closed.
The Postal Service quickly put contingency plans in place to maintain service to the community. Letter carrier operations for El Segundo and Manhattan Beach will be relocated to the Hawthorne Post Office effective Feb. 7, with no service interruptions.
El Segundo PO Box mail and Caller Service mail will be available for customers at the Manhattan Beach Post Office, 1007 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach CA 90266, effective Feb. 7. PO Box mail will be available on the rear dock of the Manhattan Beach Post Office from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Customers must bring photo identification to collect their mail.
Caller Service large volume business customers can pick up their mail at the Manhattan Beach Post Office at their usual time on the back dock.
Accountable mail that needs signature or is too large for mailboxes will also be picked up at the Manhattan Beach Post Office. Customers who receive a notice from their letter carrier to pick up mail have the option of scheduling a redelivery or picking it up. Information on options and pick up times can be found on the notice left.
The El Segundo Bulk Business Mail Unit operation will be relocated to the Redondo Beach Post Office, 1201 N. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach CA 90277, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
