BAKERSFIELD, CA — At a ceremony attended by family, friends and colleagues, Lynda La Force officially became Postmaster of Bakersfield. Kerry Wolny, district manager, Sierra Coastal Postal District, administered the oath of office.
Joining La Force and Wolny in the celebration were Larry Munoz, district manager, Santa Ana Postal District, and Cindy Solo-Curl, retired Postmaster of Reedley, who both offered remarks. Keenan Hochschild, representing the office of Congressmen Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Lisa Green, district attorney, Kern County, were also present.
La Force, who was appointed earlier this year and is the first female to serve as Bakersfield Postmaster, said she is looking forward to continuous improvement when it comes to delivery and service in the City of Bakersfield. “My goals are to focus on customer needs, employee needs and generating revenue,” she said. As postmaster, she is also attuned to the needs of business mailers.
La Force began her Postal Service career in October 1983. After being promoted to the ranks of management, she held several positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as the Postmaster of Tulare, CA. She was also assigned as the acting manager of post office operations for several Post Offices in the Sierra Coastal Postal District.
La Force is responsible for the delivery of mail to nearly 203,300 Bakersfield residential and business customers, six days a week. She oversees 244 carrier delivery routes, almost 12,000 P.O. Boxes and a workforce of 462 employees.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
