The United States Postal Service is seeking highly motivated and qualified Operations Industrial Engineers (OIEs). The Postal Service is embarking on the most important transition in its history and needs OIEs to re-engineer how mail is collected, processed, and delivered to the American public in a way that is more efficient, speedier, more secure and reliable, and economical than ever before.

Individuals will work in a high-tech, mail-processing environment where they will use engineering skills to develop and implement changes to improve efficiencies from collection to processing and delivery, perform mail-flow analysis, equipment performance, workroom layout and design, and employee scheduling and staffing.

Those with either a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or a Master of Science degree in an engineering field from a college or university accredited by ABET may apply online by visiting www.usps.com/employment and searching for “engineer” in “California” to view the latest job openings. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent resident alien, and be able to pass drug screening, criminal background and any other applicable Postal Service test. OIEs may be required to work non-standard hours in plant processing, retail, or delivery operations.

The deadline for application is March 12, 2014.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
