PASADENA — Out of an abundance of caution for the well being of employees and customers, operations at Catalina Station, 967 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, have been temporarily suspended while emergency maintenance operations take place. The small facility houses retail and Post Office Box operations only.
All mail has been removed from Catalina Station and Post Office Box operations have been relocated to Plaza Station, 281 E. Colorado Blvd., less than one mile away. Catalina Station Post Office Box customers can pick up their mail at Plaza Station beginning at 3 p.m. today, and continuing Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers must have photo identification with them to collect their mail.
Several employees became ill yesterday and sought medical treatment when an odor permeated the facility. The employees were evaluated and released. The Postal Service leases the space in the building and an environmental specialist is investigating the source of the odor.
Operations will return to Catalina Station as soon as the matter is resolved, hopefully early next week.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
