FORT BRAGG, CA — Daniel Mendoza has been selected as the Postmaster of Fort Bragg, replacing Jill Jahelka who recently retired.
Mendoza said he is excited and honored to have been selected as the Fort Bragg Postmaster. “The Fort Bragg Post Office employees and I are dedicated to providing exceptional service to this wonderful community,” he said.
Mendoza began his Postal Service career in November 1999 as a temporary clerk in Willits, CA. In 2000, he served as a temporary carrier in Ukiah, and in 2001 he became a part-time carrier. In 2006, Mendoza graduated from the Associate Supervisor Program and was subsequently promoted to Supervisor, Customer Services. He quickly worked his way through the ranks of management and held several positions of increasing responsibility, including an assignment as the officer in charge of the Ukiah Post Office. He also recently served as the officer in charge of the Fort Bragg Post Office.
“Since beginning my career, I have been given many opportunities that have led to my selection as a postmaster,” Mendoza said. “The future of the Postal Service looks bright and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. While all of the changes can be challenging at times, it makes my job enjoyable and fun.”
Mendoza said there is a lot to be excited about. “There are many new products and services that the Postal Service has designed to continue to be valuable to the community and our customers, and it’s a time of great opportunity for us,” he said. “We’re showing that we are a world-class package delivery company and that it’s simple to do business with us. I love being a part of that,” he added.
As the Postmaster of Fort Bragg, Mendoza oversees 20 employees and is responsible for 6,500 delivery points (addresses), six city routes, five rural routes, two highway contract routes, and 2,344 P.O. Boxes. But Mendoza still finds time to help the community. Since 1998 he has been a volunteer firefighter for Little Lake Fire Dept./Willits Fire Dept. He also holds the title of Captain/Emergency Medical Technician, and as a United States Marine, holds the title of Staff Sergeant.# # #

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
