WATERFORD, CA — When the Waterford Village Post Office (VPO) opens on March 29, 2014, the Modesto-Waterford corridor will have 24-hour access to U.S. Postal Service products and services. The Waterford VPO is located in the Bait Barn owned by Manny Basi. It is a one-stop shop for food, gasoline, bait and tackle. A grand opening will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at 12505 Yosemite Blvd., Waterford CA 95386.

Bait Barn is the largest live bait retailer in the area. Owner Manny Basi hosts fishing derbies and other sporting events and has been a member of the community for over 12 years. He is excited about opening the first Village Post Office in his bait and tackle store. He is looking forward to serving the community with expanded hours and is happy to have U.S. postage stamps and Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes available for outdoorsman to mail their various tackle supplies.

Waterford is known as the “Gateway to Recreation.” The foothills leading to Yosemite are filled with many lakes and reservoirs that lure anglers and hunters and is now a place to send souvenirs and photos from a convenient Village Post Office.

VPOs are usually located in established businesses, giving them the added retail advantage of providing customers convenient access to the USPS products and services used most often by consumers.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
