SANTA ROSA, CA - The U.S. Postal Service recently announced the selection of Michelle Tucker as the Postmaster of Santa Rosa, replacing Irma Zine, who has moved to another position. While a date for Tucker's official swearing in ceremony has not be set, she assumed her postmaster duties in April.
Tucker said she is honored to have been selected as the Santa Rosa Postmaster and is looking forward to the challenges of running such a large operation. "The Santa Rosa Post Office employees and I are dedicated to providing exceptional service to this wonderful community," Tucker said.
Tucker began her Postal Service career as a Christmas casual in 1989. She continued on with temporary assignments until being hired as a clerk at the North Bay plant in 1993. She made the jump to management after completing the Associate Supervisor Program, graduating in 1996 as a customer service support supervisor in Vallejo, CA. Tucker comes to Santa Rosa with a good deal of experience having been appointed Postmaster of Sonoma in 2006 and then to her most recent position, Postmaster of Novato in 2007.
"Since beginning my career, I have been given the opportunity to create my own career path. By doing this I'm able to coach and mentor up-and-coming individuals within the ranks of the U.S. Postal Service, and this makes me happy" Tucker said. "The future of the Postal Service looks bright and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. While all of the changes can be challenging at times, it makes my job enjoyable and fun."
As the Postmaster of Santa Rosa, Tucker oversees 272 employees in four retail and two delivery units. She is also responsible for 88,305 delivery points, 140 city routes, four rural routes, eight collection routes and 8,132 P.O. Boxes.
With all of this, Tucker still finds time to be actively involved with youth football and cheer programs within her community, recently leading her cheer team to the national championships.
