SUTTER, CA — Customers at Sutter Food & Gas, 7505 Colusa Hwy, Sutter CA 95982, can now add postage to their food and gas orders. Sutter Food & Gas will officially become a Village Post Office (VPO), adding U.S. Postal Service products to its array of supplies, gas and food services.

To celebrate the event, the community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014.

As the first VPO in Sutter, customers will have the convenience of a business that is open seven days a week, including holidays, from 5:00 a.m. to midnight. Owner Jasbir Shoker has been in business for over 11 years. Shoker believes opening a Village Post Office in his business will provide more access and greater flexibility for the community to buy stamps and purchase flat-rate postage.

Village Post Offices (VPOs) are usually located in established businesses, giving them the added retail advantage of providing customers convenient access to the Postal Service products and services they use most often.

There are more than 600 VPOs nationwide that help enhance local businesses. Customers are able to purchase Forever Stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick up freee Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes. The convenience for customers is that many VPOs offer expanded business hours, including Sundays and holidays.

Post Office Operations Manager Jaime Biskner and Sutter Postmaster Deborah Hunt will join Shoker in the grand opening ceremonies.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
