NEVADA CITY, CA —   Customers shopping for grocery items at Rainbow Market will now find postage, Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes in the grocery aisle when the store becomes a Village Post Office (VPO). Fanfare to celebrate the store becoming a VPO will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Rainbow Market, on 16797 Highway 49, Nevada City, CA 95959.

Known for being the best preserved Gold Rush town in California, the residents of Nevada City will no doubt feel like the town has hit the mother lode again with much-needed access to postal products. Nevada City, having gone through historical renovation, has fine restaurants, accommodations for weary travelers, two wineries, a Railroad Museum, Firehouse Museum, the Miners Foundry Cultural Center, and now a Village Post Office as distinctive as the Nevada Theater.

Rainbow Market proprietor Maggie Maloney has been in business for 17 years and is very pleased that her store will become a VPO and believes her community will benefit greatly. “Having Rainbow Market as another outlet for purchasing postage will provide convenience and accessibility for my community,” said Maloney.

Village Post Offices (VPOs) are usually located in established businesses, giving them the added retail advantage of providing customers convenient access to the postal products and services they use most often.

There are close to 700 VPOs nationwide that help enhance local businesses.  Customers are able to purchase Forever Stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick up Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes.  The convenience for customers is that many VPOs offer expanded business hours, including Sundays and holidays.

Manager of Post Office Operations Jamie Biskner and Nevada City Postmaster Kenneth Wiens will join Maloney in the grand opening ceremonies.
