AUBERRY, CA — On Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, Arvin Sekhon will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1884 when John W. Cavin served as the first Auberry Postmaster. Sekhon will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office as the new Auberry Postmaster at an 11:00 a.m. ceremony at the Auberry Post Office, 33012 Auberry Rd, Auberry, CA 93602. Post Office Operations Manager Rodney Romero will administer the oath of office.
Sekhon started her U.S. Postal Service career as a part-time city carrier in 2001. She was soon promoted to customer services supervisor in 2004. In preparation for becoming a postmaster, Sekhon served as the officer-in-charge at the Firebaugh, Coarsegold and Bass Lake Post Offices.
Sekhon believes that a postmaster is one of the most important civic positions to hold. “There are few positions in any community where one is held to the highest standards than as a postmaster,” said Sekhon. “I plan to serve to the best of my ability and to treat all my employees and customers with dignity and respect.”
Sekhon, 38, enjoys dancing, swimming and attending her children’s sports and band performances. She and her husband, Balraj, have three children, daughters, Komal and Palveen, and a son, Sukhjeet. They reside in Fresno, CA.
Sekhon has science and education degrees from India, and she is a graduate of the Postal Service’s Associate Supervisor Program and Mid-Level Management Program. Always looking for ways to help local businesses and her community, she advises them through Business Connect meetings, holds Passport Fairs, and attends Career Days at local schools. She involves herself in various school committees, volunteers her time with the Boy Scouts of America and on her daughters band trips.
As Auberry Postmaster, Sekhon oversees the operations of the Auberry and Tollhouse Post Offices, with total delivery points (addresses) of 1,957 on five highway contract delivery routes, 1,596 Post Office boxes, and combined daily mail volume of 4,868 pieces.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
