MT. SHASTA, CA — Customers at the Sports & Spirits gas and convenience store will now be able to fill up on postage and U.S. Postal Service products when they stop for gas and groceries. On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., customers will be greeted with a grand opening at Sports & Spirits, 300 W. lake Street, Mt. Shasta CA 96067, when the store becomes a Village Post Office (VPO).

Mt. Shasta is one of Northern California’s fasted growing recreational communities, and having a VPO makes a convenient stop for locals and travelers to the area. Owner Margaret Dean is excited to offer her community an alternative access to purchase Forever stamps and Priority Flat-Rate postage.

Dean has three convenience stores, Sports & Spirits in Mt. Shasta, Miner Street Station in Yreka and Handy Stop in Weed. All three will become Village Post Offices.

Customers are able to purchase Forever Stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick upfree  Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes. The convenience for customers is that many VPOs offer expanded business hours, including Sundays and holidays.

VPOs are located within existing communities in a variety of locations, including convenience stores, local businesses and libraries, and are operated by the management of those locations.

Post Office Operations Manager Tina Hopkins and Mt. Shasta Postmaster Matt Valdivia will join Dean in the grand opening ceremony.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
