SACRAMENTO, CA — Grocery shoppers at Compton’s Market, 4065 McKinley Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95819, can now add postage and U.S. Postal Service products and services to their shopping list. On Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., customers are welcome to a grand opening when the store becomes a Village Post Office (VPO).
Nestled in the community of East Sacramento, surrounded by neighborhood businesses, charming bungalows and quaint cottages, the VPO will add to the small-town atmosphere of the district. Owners Sunil and Pam Hans believe adding Postal Service products to their neighborhood market will add another level of service to their customers.
Customers are able to purchase Forever Stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick up free Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes. The convenience for customers is that many VPOs offer expanded business hours, including Sundays and holidays.
VPOs are located within existing communities in a variety of locations, including convenience stores, local businesses and libraries, and are operated by the management of those locations.
Sacramento Postmaster Jeff Day will join the Hans in the grand opening ceremony and welcome customers as the store becomes the first VPO in East Sacramento.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
