SACRAMENTO, CA — The U.S. Postal Service kicked off the holiday shipping season today by announcing it will be delivering packages seven days a week through Christmas Day including in many Sacramento Postal District cities. Double-digit growth in package volume, 12 percent over last year’s holiday season, has prompted the Postal Service to extend package deliveries to seven days a week.
“The Postal Service ships more packages to more places than anyone else,” said Sacramento District Manager Barbara Plunkett. “While Santa holds the world record on the number of house visits in one day, even he has to rely on the most sophisticated delivery system in the world – the United States Postal Service.”
Some of the cities in the Sacramento Postal District include the following:
Sacramento
Chico
Stockton
Placerville
Fresno
Grass Valley
Sunday package delivery continues our commitment to provide our customers superior service as the nation’s mail carrier continues to respond to the increase in package business stemming from the growth in e-commerce.
Every household in America relies on the USPS to get their packages delivered home for the holidays no matter how far away the sender roams. “This is truly our season at the Postal Service,” said Plunkett. “We’ve been doing it longer than anyone, delivering the holidays so that our season truly becomes the season for our customers.”
Due to continued e-commerce growth and improvements to its Priority Mail product line, the Postal Service is expecting double-digit growth in its package business this holiday season, projected to reach 470 million packages. That’s an increase of 50 million more packages over the same period last year.
