Background

In the 1990s, Dr. Bodai, a Kaiser Permanente surgeon who has dedicated a major portion of his life to raising funds for breast cancer research, began a personal crusade to urge Congress and the United States Postal Service to create a postage stamp designed specifically to raise funds for breast cancer research. In 1998, the first semi-postal stamp ever was issued - the Breast Cancer Research Stamp (BCR). It was the first time in the history of the Postal Service that a stamp was used to raise funds for a specific cause. The Breast Cancer Research Stamp was also the first stamp to be issued at the White House and to be authorized by three consecutive presidents.

In its first year, 200 million BCR stamps were printed, raising $5.2 million for cancer research. Since then, more than one billion stamps have been printed and more than $79 million has been raised for breast cancer research. The BCR stamp remains the best-selling stamp of its kind in USPS history.
Dr. Bodai is currently introducing the first ever "global stamp" raising awareness and funding to conquer the disease worldwide. "Together we will find a cure in the near future," Bodai said. “That is our hope.”

The Breast Cancer Research Stamp sells for 60 cents, with 11 cents going directly to fund breast cancer research. The public is invited to help “Fund the Fight, Find a Cure.”
