BAKERSFIELD, CA ― Residents in Bakersfield now have two more convenient options when they need to pick up postage stamps or ship a package. A U.S. Postal Service Village Post Office (VPO) opened in Rosedale Farrier, located at 3236 Allen Road, Bakersfield, CA 93314. Another is set to open on Jan. 14 in J&B’s Brookside Market, located at 4700 Coffee Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308.

On Jan. 14 at 10 a.m., J&B’s Brookside Market will celebrate its grand opening. The public and members of the media are invited to attend the celebration.

As VPOs, Rosedale Farrier Supply Inc. and J&B’s Brookside Market add the two most frequently purchased Postal Service products and services ― Forever stamps and Priority Mail Flat Rate products ― to its variety of offerings. VPOs are a part of the network of outlets owned and operated by third parties to complement the Postal Service’s own network of retail Post Offices. This network, which includes Contract Postal Units, Approved Shippers and Stamps on Consignment locations, enables USPS to efficiently expand the availability of its services at convenient locations that customers already frequent.

Often open longer hours than a traditional Post Office, VPOs add another level of convenience for Postal Service customers. Rosedale Farrier Supply Inc. is open Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. J&B’s Brookside Market is open Monday – Friday 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

“This is good news for our mutual customers,” said Bakersfield Postmaster Tony Rivera. “Rosedale Farrier Supply Inc. and J&B’s Brookside Market are offering their customers a one-stop shopping experience where they can buy stamps and ship prepaid Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes at a convenient location they already frequent.”

There are more than 800 Village Post Offices located in a wide variety of businesses across the country.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
