TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA ― The Twentynine Palms Post Office building, located at 73839 Gorgonio Drive, will be dedicated to honor late Colonel M.J. “Mac” Dube, USMC during a dedication ceremony on Friday, Apr. 17, 2015, at 8 a.m. “We are very proud to have this facility honor the life and accomplishments of Colonel Dube,” said USPS San Diego District Manager James Olson.

Olson will be joined at the ceremony by Congressman Paul Cook (CA-8), Chief of Staff, MCAGCC Colonel James Hanlon, Twentynine Palms Mayor Joel Klink, the Dube family and other dignitaries to unveil the building naming plaque that will be installed in the Post Office lobby.

Congressman Cook introduced the legislation signed into law by the President (P.L. 113-266) on Dec. 18, 2014, naming the building for Dube and paying tribute to a man who committed his life to our nation and the community of Twentynine Palms.

Colonel M.J. “Mac” Dube was born in 1933 in Brunswick, Maine. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1951 during the Korean War and proudly served his country for 38 years, which included time as the Chief of Staff at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center.

Dube’s military decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, four Bronze Star Medals with Combat “V,” four Purple Hearts, two Air Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat “V,” three Navy Commendation Medals with Combat “V,” the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, four Presidential Unit Citations, three Navy Unit Citations, and two Good Conduct Medals.

Following his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1989, Dube dedicated his life to public service. He was elected to the Twentynine Palms City Council in 1994 where he held the position of mayor for a number of years. Even after he stepped down from the City Council in 2002, Dube continued to serve as a field representative for the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

After serving tirelessly his country and community for more than six decades, Dube passed away on April 29, 2014, at the age of 80. He was survived by his wife, Patricia, and five adult children.

“The dedication of a Post Office building in the memory of a local citizen is a fitting tribute because a Post Office, like the mail that runs through it, binds this nation together,” said Olson. “And, like Colonel Dube’s character, this Post Office exudes a strong and functional purpose of strength and unity within the community and across our nation.”
