ALAMO, CA — When Alamo customers learned that U.S. Postal Service Retail Clerk George Bailey will be selling his last stamp on Friday, May 29, 2015, many decided they wanted to be a part of his farewell ceremony at 8:00 a.m. at the Alamo Post Office located at 160 Alamo Plaza, Alamo, CA 94507.

Bailey’s first stint of federal service began with the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1988. On Feb. 20, 1990, he began his 25 years with the Postal Service at the Walnut Creek Post Office. He recalls the day that made him want to serve customers as a career. He was working as a mail processing clerk in the back office when the window services supervisor needed help to serve customers in line. The supervisor asked Bailey to help with vacation-hold mail, parcel pick-ups, and other non-revenue transactions. He enjoyed the interaction with the customers so much that he requested to be trained as a sales and services associate.

In 1997, Bailey was reassigned to the Alamo Post Office where he developed enduring relationships with his customers. He said, “I enjoy coming to work every day. I try to keep abreast and knowledgeable of all Postal Service products and services so that I can make sure that the customer understands the choices in what we have to offer.”

In August, Bailey plans to relocate to Florida to be closer to his Mom, relatives and close friends who have also retired and relocated to Florida. He intends to stay busy with volunteer work and working in his family-owned farm.
