SAN JOSE, CA – Diana Teresa Munoz will become the 26th San Jose Postmaster, dating to 1849 when J. D. Hoppe was the first postmaster. On Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., Munoz will take her official oath of office as San Jose Postmaster at the San Jose Museum of Art, 110 South Market Street, San Jose, the site of the city’s first federal building in 1892, and the old U.S. Post Office building. Bay-Valley Postal District Manager Jeffrey Day will administer the oath of office.

Munoz began her U.S. Postal Service career in 1984 right out of high school as a clerk at the Oakland Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). Her managerial career began in 1988 as a supervisor. Since 1988, Munoz has held numerous mid- and high-level managerial positions, including manager of in-plant support, manager of distribution operations and senior manager of distribution operations in the San Francisco District.

Munoz became an executive for the Postal Service in 2012 as the manager of the San Francisco Network Distribution Center in Richmond and was soon named the senior plant manager of the San Francisco P&DC, the position she held prior to be selected as San Jose Postmaster. She replaces Sam Vasquez, who retired.

As part of the recent issuance of the Missing Children Forever Stamp, Munoz has made the theme of her installation about missing children. “This is something that is very personal to me,” said Munoz. “When I hear stories of missing children, I think of my three daughters and the possibility that it could have been one of them. The anguish of families of missing children is something that goes to the heart of being a parent.

“I’m very excited to become the postmaster of the city of San Jose,” said Munoz. “San Jose is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, both in businesses growth and population. My vision as postmaster is to enhance the work environment of our more than 1,000 employees who are woven into the fabric of this beautiful city and to lead by example that our purpose is to provide exceptional service and positive customer experiences.”

Munoz received a bachelor’s degree in business management in 2002 from the University of Phoenix. In addition, Munoz completed several Postal Service leadership programs, including Advanced Leadership, Plant Manager Processing and Distribution and Executive Leadership. She is “green belt certified” in the Lean Six Sigma program and is currently working to attain her “black belt” certification.

Munoz is an avid sports fan. She enjoys attending and watching football, basketball, and baseball games with her family. She has three beautiful daughters, Andrea, Selyna, and Juleea Ybarra. Her eldest daughter, Andrea, will serve as the emcee.

As San Jose Postmaster, Munoz is responsible for delivery and retail operations of 12 Post Office branches with 560 city and rural routes, 23,202 PO Boxes, more than 360,000 delivery points (business and residential addresses) and daily mail volume of 1,750,000 pieces.
