FORT BRAGG, CA — On Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at noon, Denice Joy Sisco will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new postmaster at the Fort Bragg Post Office, 203 N. Franklin St., Fort Bragg, CA 95437.

A jet engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from 1987 to 1990, Sisco took a different path to the Postal Service. She started her Postal Service career in 2003 as a temporary employee at the Clearlake Post Office. A year later she became a full-time employee and performed various tasks as a vending machine clerk and a trainer of retail associates. In 2007, she was offered an opportunity as the office-in-charge (OIC) of the Albion, CA, Post Office, and a year later became the Albion Postmaster.

When the opportunity presented itself, Sisco became the OIC at Fort Bragg. It was a new experience for her, never having managed an office with both city and rural deliveries before. She accepted the challenge and thrived in her new environment.

“I try to remember, leadership cannot be given,” Sisco said. “It must be earned. It cannot be taken away. You lose it by lack of performance.”

Sisco has four grown children: three sons and a daughter. She resides in Fort Bragg.

As Fort Bragg Postmaster, Sisco supervises 19 employees, who process and deliver daily mail volume of 20,000 pieces on six city routes, five rural routes and two highway contract routes and 2,344 PO Boxes.

Post Office Operations Manager Bobbi Riley will administer the official oath of office.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
