CASTROVILLE, CA — Following a proud tradition that began in 1867 when Henery S. Mead was the Castroville Postmaster, Bruce Parker will raise his right hand and recite the oath of office on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Castroville Post Office, 10799 Merritt St., Castroville, CA 95012. Post Office Operations Manager Aron Jones will administer the oath of office.

Parker began his U.S. Postal Service career as a rural carrier in Hollister in 2000, and later at Seven Trees Station in San Jose. In 2004, he graduated from the Associate Supervisor Program and was assigned to supervisorial positions in San Jose city postal stations and Watsonville, East Santa Cruz, Salinas and Monterey Post Offices. He was the Moss Landing Postmaster prior to his selection as the Castroville Postmaster. He replaces Sandra Tamiano, who is now the Carmel Postmaster.

Parker, 54, is married to Caroline, a rural carrier in Hollister and they have three sons, DJ, 25, Michael, 15, and Lean, 13. They reside in Hollister.

“I see the position as a postmaster to serve the community and enhance the standing of the Postal Service in the community,” said Parker.

Parker believes in community outreach and volunteers his time with the Elks Club and the Boy Scouts of America.

As Postmaster, Parker manages eight employees who process and deliver 12,000 pieces of mail daily to 2,700 delivery points (addresses) on three city routes and one rural route and 914 PO Boxes.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
