BOYES HOT SPRINGS, CA — On Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., Cari Handlin will follow a tradition that dates back to 1911 when Gertrude Peters was the first Boyes Hot Springs Postmaster. Handlin will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Boyes Hot Springs Postmaster at the Boyes Hot Springs Post Office, 18092 Sonoma Hwy, Boyes Hot Springs, CA 95416.

Handlin started her U.S. Postal Service career in 1994 as a part-time city carrier in San Diego and became a full-time carrier in 1995. To gain experience in other crafts, she became a part-time clerk in 1998. That same year she started her career in management.

In 2002, Handlin held her first postmaster position as the Palo Verde Postmaster. Subsequently, she became the Imperial, CA, Postmaster. In 2006, she moved to the San Francisco Postal District and worked at the Mill Valley Post Office and Sausalito Post Office as supervisor of customer service. She transferred to the Bay-Valley Postal District as supervisor of customer service at the Fairfield, CA, Post Office. In 2014, Handlin returned to the San Francisco District and worked in Sausalito as supervisor of customer service before her promotion to Boyes Hot Springs Postmaster.

“Working in a smaller office allows me to build a rapport with the customers and find out what services they need from their local Post Office,” said Handlin. “This year we have added passport services and hope to add gift cards in the near future.”

Handlin and her fiancé, Robert Fox, reside in Vacaville. She has a daughter, Lauren, 23, a son, Christian, 19, daughter, Jordynn, 16, and step-daughter, Samantha, 21. Handlin enjoys scuba diving, wood turning, and spending time with her family.

As Boyes Hot Springs Postmaster, Handlin supervises two employees, and the office averages 1,515 pieces of daily mail volume and has 1,822 PO Boxes.

Post Office Operations Manager Bobbi Riley will administer the official oath of office.
